1. Job Purpose Statement:
Product Data & Specifications:
- Manage the raw material specification process, including the maintenance of accurate raw material data on the operation database.
- Create, coordinate and maintain accurate data on the Operation database, from initial item structure set up through to bill of material release for production, costing, purchasing and capacity planning purposes.
- Provision of finished product specifications & finished product technical information in customer specific formats if relevant.
Quality Control, Assurance and Compliance:
- Undertake and manage all activities related to Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Legal compliance and Safety, including working with the other parts of the Operation team.

Undertake and manage the technical testing & inspection program of the required facilities that ensures all raw materials, packaging and other items supplied from external sources meet specifications and also that all products manufactured in house meet their own respective requirements.
- Responsible for maintaining SALSA certification, regulatory and food safety standards.
- Authority to quarantine, or release, raw materials / intermediate stock / products.
- Drive recommendations on suppliers, and on food safety / legality / quality issues, that can affect company strategy (e.g. food safety failure at a major supplier).
- Ensure compliance with food legislation.

3. Key Accountabilities:
Product Data & Technical Specifications:
-
To review and approve raw material suppliers (ingredients, packaging, consumables) to ensure that only suitable suppliers able to meet our product quality, safety & legality requirements are used.

To manage and approve suppliers by monitoring, testing and negotiating to ensure raw materials, packaging and other goods and services are safe and to specification.

To manage and approve raw material specification– incorporating legal, customer & policy compliance, Health and Safety.
-
To maintain accurately raw material data on Operation system, including (but not limited to) shelf life, allergen, nutrition, additive, ingredients, supplier, country of origin information.
-
To maintain accurate data on the Operation database, from initial item structure set up through to bill of material release for production, costing, purchasing and capacity planning purposes.

To create and provide finished product specifications & finished product technical information in customer specific formats if relevant.

To liaise with various internal departments to assimilate all the information required for formula/recipe creation and maintenance.

To be responsible for checking recipes to ensure compliance with maximum additive levels, where applicable.
-
To manage formula version control & validities to ensure accuracy of recipe, packaging and method details for costing, planning, production & labelling purposes.

To attend first packing runs to ensure that live product formulas are correct and to amend any changes required.

To ensure the consistency and accuracy of bills of material; essential for manufacturing, capacity planning, material ordering, costing and for the generation of ingredients lists & other recipe based on pack declarations.
Quality Control, Quality assurance and Compliance:
-
To manage and co-ordinate the development and maintenance of the Manufacturing & Packing quality system, particularly in relation to product quality, safety (allergens) & legality. To give support, advice & guidance to other departments to aid them in implementing the quality system requirements in their area to ensure they meet legal and requirements.

To manage the development of HACCP within Operation ensuring that food safety risks are correctly identified and communicated to the business, and controls put in place by each area to manage them, guaranteeing that the business meets its legal obligations.

To keep up to date with new legal and customer product quality, safety & legality requirements, and best industry practices in these areas; to identify relevant changes to the business needs and procedures resulting from these, and communicate these within the business.

To co-ordinate customer / third-party audits, such as SALSA ensuring that the business meets these standards as required.

To identify Operation internal audit needs in relation to product quality, safety & legality, and implement appropriate internal audit inspections/programmes for these with the resources allowed, to ensure we meet customer and third-party requirements.

To monitor site hygiene to ensure product protection and safety and give food safety advice to the business as a whole.

To co-ordinate (and manage where relevant) investigations into product quality, safety or legality issues across Operations, aid in identifying causes and agreeing suitable corrective actions, and identify potential preventative actions to stop their re-occurrence.

To investigate customer and consumer complaints where relevant, and internal and external complaint trends, to enable preventative actions to be identified which will help prevent their re-occurrence.

Review, analyse & interpret current and potential future food legislation to identify and communicate any impact on the business.

Liaise with external regulatory bodies such as Trading Standards to request advice where required and also to ensure that any regulatory challenges or food safety issues are dealt with in a professional and timely manner.
